December 2019 Intermittent Fasting Diary!

CONTINUED FROM  NOVEMBER

Sunday, December 1: The month is off to a satisfactory start. I’m sipping on another not delicious Americano in one of my favorite local cafes and my fast is approaching 17.5 hours. Two hours and 40 minutes later, I broke December’s first fast with a banana smoothie and some leftovers from Friday night’s Thanksgiving dinner.

Sunday/Monday (Dec. 1 & 2): I finished eating for the dat at 2:05 p.m. Seven hours later in a cafe, I again resisted ordering something delicious. Instead, I am sipping on a green tea and some sparkling water. And then once home, I ended up eating. I still went most of the day without eating, but I really should have resisted. The fasting clock started at 1:20 a.m. This will be a dirty fast as I’m now having a cafe latte before work. That fast was broken a little over 16.5 hours later.

Monday/Tuesday (Dec. 2 & 3): The fasting clock started, but I stopped it after an hour in the gym. Again, I ate later at night, but this time I didn’t eat too much. I had a latte in the morning, so this will be another dirty fast. At the time of writing, my fast is approaching 12.5 hours. It was hard to get through almost four hours of classes, but I managed it and my fast was eventually broken after 18.25 hours.

Tuesday/Wednesday (Dec. 3 & 4): Tuesday was basically a one-meal day, and the fasting clock began at 7:02 p.m. I had another latte in the morning when my fast was around the 14-hour mark. I hope to go the rest of the working day – until around 5 p.m. without consuming anything other than sparkling and non-sparkling water. That didn’t go exactly according to plan. I had a small protein shake and then between class and the first of the afternoon’s meetings, a salad, scone, and a latte. The resulting dirty fast was 19 hours and 47 minutes. Once again a string of dirty fasts, but I am at least still eating than was normal for me before I started fasting.

Wednesday/Thursday (Dec. 4 & 5): I finished eating for the day after an evening workout and the fasting clock started again at following a protein bar and hot chocolate. I ended up cancelling my fast after a morning latte and then a salad and scone well before the 16-hour mark.

Thursday/Friday (Dec. 5 & 6): The fasting clock started after dinner at 5:56 p.m. It’s now 13.5 hours later and I’m sipping on an Americano at a local cafe about to start grading presentations. I resisted the urge to have a latte, thus keeping my fast a clean one for at least a while longer. 16.5 hours, and I’m feeling good. I’m going to do a couple of errands and then hit my gym before I next eat. After the gym, I decided more work in a cafe was in order before eating. I did, however, start drinking a latte just at the 19-hour mark. I formerly broke the fast just after twenty hours.

Friday/Saturday (Dec. 6 & 7): I took the rest of the day and most of the weekend off because Yeongsin is visiting.

Sunday/Monday (Dec. 8 & 9): The fasting clock began again at 3:46 p.m., and I hope this one will be a long one that may even include a weights session. I didn’t make it to the gym in the morning, but I did do 70 push ups. It was another dirty fast with a mint latte in the evening while I did some more marking, a few cashew nuts before bed, and then a latte in the morning. Not really a fast at all to be honest, but there were not a whole lot of calories consumed, and the fast was broken with a small but healthy cup of Greek yogurt with some banana and mixed berries.

Monday/Tuesday (Dec. 9 & 10): A protein bar, a healthy salad, a cheese scone, and green tea latte completed the day’s calories, and the fasting clock started at 2:34 p.m. Well, more calories were consumed in the form of a cafe mocha, so this will be another dirty fast and I’ll try to reduce the total calories again tomorrow. I’m not sure how successful I was today on that front. The fast was broken before the 12-hour mark.

Tuesday/Wednesday (Dec. 10 & 11):  The positive result was that my next fast started just a few minutes before 1 p.m. I almost went the rest of the day without eating with the help of a lazy evening spent at home. I did, however, have a protein bar and a handful of cashew nuts just before bed. That really broke my fast, but I’ll carry on and try to make this a kind of “don’t-eat-much” kind of fast. A latte was started at 6:15 a.m. as I gear up to do a lot of early morning work.

Wednesday/Thursday (Dec. 11 & 12): The fasting clock started at 3:50 p.m. and I’m determined to get back on track with a decent clean fast. Yes, I know I’ve said that before. Well, I had a few nuts before bed and then broke my fast after 17 hours and 20 minutes. Not exactly what I had in mind when this fast began. I did exercise for an hour though, and that always makes fasting a little harder.

Thursday/Friday (Dec. 12 & 13): I finished eating on Thursday night just before 9 p.m. It wasn’t quite the day I envisaged. It’s now Friday morning and I resisted the latte urge and now have a bland Americano by my side as my fast approaches 13 hours. I broke my first clean fast in a while after 18 hours and 50 minutes. That felt good.

Friday/Saturday (Dec. 13 & 14): Friday was just a one-meal day (so far) and the fasting clock started at 3:55 p.m. Well, I did have a few more calories in the evening while working and a little snack before bed. This fast is cancelled.

Saturday/Sunday (Dec. 14 & 15): Saturday is a busy day and I have dinner plans. I hope dinner will be my last calories of the day, but I’m not yet sure that’ll happen. It didn’t happen.

Sunday/Monday (Dec. 15 & 16): Not much food but I can’t say I fasted.

Monday/Tuesday (Dec. 16 & 17): Monday’s fast began at 1:04 p.m. I made it through the day with surprising ease, and I’m now sipping on an Americano just before 8 a.m. and my fast just passed 18.5 hours. And then I dropped that latte on the floor and the cup shattered.  The good news is my fast ended just before the 23-hour mark, and that was longest clean fast in a while. It would have been longer, but an old friend was in town. It’s the next afternoon and my fast just passed the 19-hour mark. I had an Americano earlier and now I’m sipping on some soda water. I don’t feel hungry at all.

Tuesday/Wednesday (Dec. 17 & 18): I ate a little more after that big lunch and my fast started at 5:13 p.m. It’s the next afternoon and my fast just passed the 19-hour mark. I had an Americano earlier and now I’m sipping on some soda water. I don’t feel hungry at all. I ordered dinner just as my fast passed the 23.5-hour mark. I could have gone longer, but it felt like a good time to eat owing to my evening plans which are: eat, do a few hours of work, and then exercise.

Wednesday/Thursday (Dec. 18 & 19): My next fast started at 5:47 p.m. after a post-dinner mocha latte and a protein bar. At around 11 p.m. after a gym session, I resisted the urge to order a hot chocolate or a green tea latte and instead I had a honey lemon tea. It was quite good. I then ensured my fast was a dirty one by having a few slices of dried mango before bed. I then had a cafe latte at around noon on Thursday. It’s now 21 hours since this dirty fast began. Exact length as yesterday. Just a coincidence really, and the fast was broken with more of a largish snack than a meal.

Thursday/Friday (Dec. 19 & 20): I ate again at around 8 p.m., but the had some naughty chips at Emily’s farewell. The fasting clock started with the last chip at 10:25 p.m. I had a latte 14 hours and 40 minutes later. I kept the clock running and ended this dirty and shorter fast after 16.5 hours.

Friday/Saturday (Dec. 20 & 21): The fasting clock started at 4:09 p.m. It’s now 3.5 hours later and I’m about to leave work and go to my gym. That gym session made it harder to resist eating at night. So hard that I didn’t resist at all. The fasting clock began at 12:28 a.m. I had a latte 11 hours and 20 minutes later as I settled down to make progress finalizing grades for some of my 120 students. The fast ended after 17 hours and 23 minutes.

Saturday/Sunday (Dec. 21 & 22): Today’s fast started at 6:49 p.m., and making it through to morning should have been easy, but I consumed a protein bar and some milk before bed. I really should have restarted the fasting clock, but I didn’t. Breakfast was begun 19 hours after the fast that wasn’t really a fast began. It really should have been a pretty easy 19-hour clean fast.

Sunday/Monday (Dec. 22 & 23): Late Sunday night, I went for a walk and listened to some music after a few hours of working. For some reason, I decided it had been far too long since I had eaten McDonald’s. A quarter pounder and an apple pie were subsequently purchased and happily consumed. I didn’t reset the fasting clock, but I guess it began just before midnight. It’s now 2 p.m. and all I’ve had so far today is a latte while the end of semester grading continues and draws to an end. Drats, I lost my wallet on my way to break my fast. The fast was eventually broken around 17.5 hours after it began.

Monday/Tuesday (Dec. 23 & 24): Breakfast Tuesday was pretty early at soon after 9 because a big dinner is planned today and I wanted to be hungry for that without fasting the whole day. The fast was broken after only 14 hours and 20 minutes.

Xmas Eve/Xmas Day: The rest of Xmas eve’s calories before a late and huge dinner were just via two lattes. The fasting clock started at exactly 10 p.m. after a feat of turkey, potatoes, vegetables, and various desserts. It’s now 1:30 p.m. and I’m about to eat although the 16-hour mark has not arrived.

Wednesday & Thursday (Xmas Day/Dec. 26): Just the two meals today, my 1:30 p.m. breakfast and then a pretty big dinner. The fasting clock started at 9:38 p.m. Two big dinners in a row, and I just realized that yesterday’s fast was my 301st of the year. With the end of the year a week away, that means I’ve missed a total of about two months of fasting. That does help to explain a recent and gradual weight gain. I need to get back on track. I at least just ordered an Americano instead of the delicious latte I wanted to drink. My fast is only at the 12.5 hour mark. Some errands and some traveling between helped pass the time, and my fast ended up being at decent one at 18.75 hours.

Thursday/Friday (Dec. 26 & 27): I ate again around 9ish, primarily because I felt I should have more fluids today. The fasting clock started at 9:30 p.m., and I just surprised myself by ordering another Americano the next day as my fast passed the 15-hour mark. Breakfast broke a fast that was just shy of  17.5 hours.

Friday/Saturday (Dec. 27 & 28): About an hour after breakfast, I consumed a banana smoothie at home and then started the fasting clock at 4:06 p.m. The resulting fast was another dirty one due to some cashew nuts and a little milk before bed. The fast totaled 19.5 hours and was broken with a banana smoothie. I spent most of that 19.5 hours in bed.

Saturday/Sunday (Dec. 28 & 29): I ate a fair bit more before the fasting clock began at 5:21 p.m. It’s now 18.5 hours later, and this so far has been a very easy and clean fast.

Sunday/Monday (Dec. 29 & 30): My fast initially started around 1 p.m. I had a hot chocolate around 7 p.m., and then regrettably I had a snack just before 11 and then I ate more. Earlier I found some Australian chocolate bars I’d never seen in Korea. Drats. The fasting clock started at 10:59 p.m. I dreamt I felt nauseous over night, and I woke up with a head ache. I’ve decided to stop taking pain killers, so I rode it out. I stayed in bed until 4 p.m., and that was rough. As far as fasting goes, it was quite an easy one at just under 19 hours, almost all of them spent in bed.

Monday/Tuesday (Dec. 30 & 31): The fasting clock started at 6:13 p.m. and the plan is to not eat until after my 3:10 p.m. doctor’s appointment. I really have to stop eating just before bed. They do some to be the common aspect of recent morning headaches. Realizing that should make it easier to resist those midnight munchies. That was another easy and clean fast. I put off eating until after a doctor’s appointment at 3 p.m., and I felt well enough for an hour of weights before that appointment. The resulting fast was 21.75 hours long. I ended the year well at least after a less than stellar few months. That was my 307th fast of the year. I hope to have fewer days off in 2020.

New Years’s Eve: The fasting clock started at 6:44 p.m. after a dinner of pancakes and omelettes. That is early for New Year’s Eve – no beer or wine for more tonight as I’ve had a strange few days and I didn’t sleep much last night, so I’m ending the year a little earlier than usual.
