{"id":1232,"date":"2015-11-25T08:53:24","date_gmt":"2015-11-24T23:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterdaley.net\/home\/?p=1232"},"modified":"2015-12-02T22:01:37","modified_gmt":"2015-12-02T13:01:37","slug":"4-week-weight-loss-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterdaley.net\/home\/4-week-weight-loss-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"4-Week Weight Loss Challenge: Week 1!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was told at a recent health check-up that I am 10 kilograms overweight. \u00a0In my defence, I know I have higher than average muscle mass, but yes, I could still lose some weight. Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/peterdaley.net\/home\/category\/fitness\/\">despite regular exercise,<\/a> my weight has ever-so-slowly been creeping up of late. Fortunately, 2Much&#8217;s founding singer Ian is also endeavouring to lose weigh as is a friend of his. Hence, a challenge was born. We weighed in last night, and our goals are to lose 5 kilograms over the next four weeks. The rules are simple, if you don&#8217;t lose the weight, you have to hand over 100,000 won.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Actually getting to the gym on a regular basis isn&#8217;t a problem for me although I really should life my intensity and time spent in the gym. That&#8217;s not the insurmountable hurdle; the insurmountable hurdle is food, glorious food. I think the only way I can defeat that demon is if I document exactly what I eat and when I eat it. And no cheating. I just wish my department&#8217;s annual Thanksgiving unlimited food feast wasn&#8217;t on tomorrow night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 1: Wednesday, November 25.\u00a0<\/strong>I&#8217;ll need to cut down on bread, but since I still have some in the fridge, so breakfast at around 7ish consisted of just one piece of toast with Vegemite, some necessary butter, and a heavenly cheese slice. A nice wholesome cup of tea completed the heavenly breakfast experience:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-26%2006.14.56_zpssehnb4fv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the way to the office I bought a healthy Paris Baguette chicken salad, an energy bar for energy, and a bottle of calorieless H20. It&#8217;s 8:53 am and I&#8217;m really hungry.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2008.35.10_zpsy8yi3jb3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"404\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Free office coffee consumed at 9:20 with the Dr. You energy bar pictured above:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2009.21.08_zpsbpi3mjrs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"485\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course one of my students bought Pringles to class. Unfortunately, she didn&#8217;t have the will power to say no to my repeated requests. I think I ate about 11 or twelve Pringles. Sorry. At around 1:25 pm, between Pringle class and my next class, I ate the chicken salad I bought this morning:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2012.59.29_zpscga5ucul.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"506\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I judged a presentation competition in the afternoon, and of course there were free snacks for the judges. I only ate them to be polite. I saved the strange fruit thing for later:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2014.45.34_zpsigz1hqsj.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"279\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I ate that fruit thing with a cup of tea at around 6 pm at a cafe. It&#8217;s now 7:04 pm, and I&#8217;m really, really hungry.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2017.46.13_zpsejpfhjq2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two hours later, I was home feasting on a magical Moroccan chicken bread roll and another cup of tea in my reliable cow mug instead of my usual banana milk:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-25%2021.16.36_zpsrdbpgzvj.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"345\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2: Thursday, November 26.\u00a0<\/strong>Up super early for an another early Vegemite toast and tea breakfast:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-26%2006.14.56_zpssehnb4fv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I hit the gym next for an early morning 4 km cardio session. Breakfast number 2 followed which consisted of more toast, but this time I swapped the Vegemite and butter for a healthy fried egg and some healthy cream cheese. And that&#8217;s the most delicious black tea latte this side of the DMZ:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-26%2009.11.39_zpsiwhg2kkz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then a drinking yoghurt, diet bar, and a fruit thing were supposed to see me through to tonight&#8217;s Thanksgiving Feast, but my students had other ideas. The leftover desserts came later in the day, and I only ate a few pieces of the chocolate mint slice:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-27%2010.50.23_zpsaapbvm2v.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-27%2016.42.17_zps2li07mr1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A light mandu dinner was followed, after a weights session by some 1+1 protein powered banana and strawberry milk which I consumed slowly on the long walk home.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-27%2017.38.05_zpspzeh92fz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-27%2019.35.36_zpsl6cwqmhw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"489\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, I consumed two really small mini bread rolls with a smidgen of margarine and Vegemite before bed. I think I could have survived the night without them. I also drank some water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 4: Saturday, November 28:<\/strong> A protein shake and just one piece of Vegemite toast for breakfast. The perfect start to the day:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2007.05.17_zpsoac2ayrg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"508\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I walked to the office again via a Starbucks that tempted me with brunch:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2009.52.43_zpsdrfqycvi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"322\" \/>Next up, a power snack ahead of a cardio workout:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2011.22.51_zpszw5etbz0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"355\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Post-workout late lunch:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2015.23.44_zpslcecfrfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After walking home, I needed a Honey Milk:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2019.02.43_zpsjgxujx4g.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"314\" \/>Thanksgiving leftovers made for a yummy and free dinner:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2019.10.38_zpskx0xkybl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Four days in and I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m doing this diet thing right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 5: Sunday, November 29: <\/strong>Same start to the day as yesterday:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-28%2007.05.17_zpsoac2ayrg.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A late brunch at home consisted of tomato soup with the remaining Thanksgiving dinner leftovers (carrots, beans, and bread rolls) and the obligatory cup of tea:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Food%20Diary\/2015-11-29%2011.02.06_zpspyu9cmbx.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A chicken, cheese, and avocado sandwich with a latter. It was helpful, however, to track everything I eat. That at least helped me see I perhaps eat more than I need.
