{"id":130,"date":"2010-08-31T22:33:22","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T13:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterdaley.net\/home\/?p=130"},"modified":"2015-03-21T22:40:58","modified_gmt":"2015-03-21T13:40:58","slug":"august-2010-fitness-diary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterdaley.net\/home\/august-2010-fitness-diary\/","title":{"rendered":"August 2010 Fitness Diary!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sunday, August 1:<\/strong> August began well with a 1 kilometer swim (my longest since pulling right lat muscle) followed by an hour in the gym: chest, shoulders, triceps, and 3 steep kilometers on the treadmill:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100801.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Tuesday, August 3:<\/strong> My regular gym is closed for the week and this just happens to be one week for almost a year that I don&#8217;t have classes. So it was back to the free taekwondo gym on campus for a 98-minute workout in the heat. Five kilometers on the treadmill and some light weights: traps, back, lower back, abs, sides, and calves. And I have never sweated so much in my life! Oh and someone stole my wallet too. Great way to start the vacation. Grrrr Angry!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100803.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Thursday, August 5:<\/strong> Another long session in the free gym on campus, but this time I kept an eye on my new wallet the whole time. Eight kilometers on the treadmill &#8211; it&#8217;s such a nice change to use a machine that doesn&#8217;t automatically stop after 40 minutes like the ones in my regular gym &#8211; and a pretty short chest, shoulders, and triceps workout. With 2 (or perhaps 3) half marathons coming up, I&#8217;m concentrating on cardio:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100805.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, August 6:<\/strong>\u00a0Back on my exercise bike for the first time in a few weeks for 25 kilometers in the heat while watching a season 2 episode of Star Trek the Next Generation:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100806.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, August 9 (Australia):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100809.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, August 11:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100811.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, August 12:<\/strong> A good long 1.7 kilometer swim today, the longest I&#8217;ve swum since injuring my right lat!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100812.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, August 13:<\/strong> A marathon 12.5 kilometers on the treadmill to test out my new runners, inserts, and special running socks ($350 worth!) I began with my regular 4 kilometers up an incline and then after a couple of minutes break I ran 8.5 kilometers in just under an hour. That boosted my confidence for next week&#8217;s half marathon, but little did I know a cold was brewing inside me!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100813.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, August 15:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100815.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, August 16:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100816.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Friday, August 20:<\/strong> Back in the gym after 3 days off due to a cold! A short 55-minute session that started with 3 kilometers on the treadmill at a pretty slow and steady pace and less of an incline than usual. Then a pretty light hamstrings, traps, lats, biceps, and lower back workout. Mmmmm supposed to run a half marathon on Sunday&#8230; heard it&#8217;s going to be 35 degrees and with my cold and my flight back to Korea tomorrow I think I should pull out&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100820.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, August 22 (Korea):<\/strong> I ran the first 3.5 kilometers of the 2010 Daegu World Firefighter Games half marathon. I had a cold and it was almost 40 degrees. I really should have stayed in bed.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100822.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, August 23:<\/strong> Back in my regular gym in the afternoon for a sharp weights-only workout: chest, shoulders, triceps, calves, lower back, sides, and abs.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Wednesday, August 25:<\/strong>\u00a0A 600-meter night swim all alone in Spa Castle&#8217;s 25 meter pool:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100825.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"342\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, August 26:<\/strong> An early morning 70-minute jog in the countryside surrounding Spa Castle:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202010\/20100826.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, August 31:<\/strong> After 4 days of no exercise due to a severe case of the common cold, it was back to work this morning with 20 kilometers on my trusty exercise bike and a few sets of calf raises.
