Much to my annoyance, the treadmill I started on died suddenly at about the 15-minute mark. <!--more-->I continued on another treadmill; hence, the picture of the display only tells half the story, and I was forced to write the real figures over it. I guess I&#8217;m still too heavy&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110102.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, January 3:<\/strong> I was supposed to get up early and go to the gym, but it didn&#8217;t even come close to happening. But! I instead did 15 minutes of abs at home and then found time during the day to swim 1,100 meters. 2011, so far so good.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110103-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, January 5:<\/strong> I arrived at the gym at 6:40 a.m. and worked out for an hour before teaching 7 hours! Oach! 2.5 kilometers on the treadmill preceded by weights: back, lats, traps, biceps, hamstrings, and thighs:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110105-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, January 8:<\/strong> Back in the gym today after my busiest teaching week ever! And quite a good workout too: chest, shoulders, triceps, forearms, lower back, thighs, hamstrings, calves, and a 3.5 km jog:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110108.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, January 11:<\/strong> A nice steady 1,300 meter swim in the later afternoon (that&#8217;s 52 laps of the 25-meter pool):<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110111.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, January 13:<\/strong> Back in the gym after what seems like a while for a 70-minute workout that consisted of 3.5 km on the treadmill and exercises for my back, traps, lats, biceps, sides, lower back, hamstrings, thighs, and calves!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110113.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, January 14:<\/strong> Another swim today (1.1 km).\u00a0This time in the morning and unfortunately\u00a0it was much too crowded to get into a regular routine. I really\u00a0hate crowded swimming pools. Why can&#8217;t everyone simply get out when I&#8217;m trying to swim?<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110114.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, January 15:<\/strong> A short sharp 25-minute weights session in the gym started at exactly 4:50 p.m. I worked my chest, shoulders, triceps, and calves with extra special attention given to my triceps and shoulders. They are consequently very sore today (Sunday).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, January 16:<\/strong> I hope to go for a long long swim after lunch&#8230;And I did just that. 46 laps of the 50 meter pool behind HomePlus:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110116.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, January 17:<\/strong> A treadmill session before work (I love starting work at 2 p.m.!) Four and a half kilometers, 18 minutes at a 10 kph jog and the rest at 6.8 kph up a steeeeeeeeeeeep incline:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110117.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, January 19 (Mum&#8217;s Birthday):<\/strong>\u00a0A weights-only session in the morning: thighs, hamstrings, calves, back, traps, lats, biceps, lower back, abs and sides.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Thursday, January 20:<\/strong> I went to the pool but it was closed.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Saturday, January 22:<\/strong> An early afternoon workout in the gym to celebrate the start of the winter vacation. 3.5 km on the treadmill (the first 2.5 km at a 10.3 kph jog) and then weights: chest, shoulders, and triceps:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110122.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, January 24:<\/strong> A nice leisurely 1,600 meter swim before dinner:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110124.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, January 25:<\/strong> A rare evening gym session: back, biceps, lats, abs, sides, and lower back. I love back extensions!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, January 26 (Australia Day):<\/strong> 3.5 km on the treadmill and a legs workout to celebrate Australia Day:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/Fitness%202011\/20110126.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, January 27:<\/strong> No exercise due to a sore throat and developing cold:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i827.photobucket.com\/albums\/zz192\/CaptPorridge2\/sorethr.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, January 29: <\/strong>I felt well enough to exercise, but not quite well enough for a cardio workout, so I just stuck to the weights: chest, shoulders, triceps, forearms, thighs, inner thighs, hamstrings, and calves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday, January 2: I began my 2011 fitness campaign with a 30-minute treadmill jog.
