Title: Lee Man-hee & Shincheonji: Articles, Links & Selected Videos (2011-Feb. 2020)
Post by: Peter Daley on August 05, 2018, 01:48:55 PM
Rick Ross has a collection of articles here (https://culteducation.com/group/1331-shinchonji-church-founder-man-hee-lee.html), and there is a testimony on Steven Hassan's site. (http://old.freedomofmind.com/Info/infoDet.php?id=692)

There is also a public Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/321920281238891/)mainly populated by expats living in Korea who have encountered SCJ.

I'll have a lot more articles and links bookmarked, plus some primary materials. I'll add those below sooner or later.

Title: Lee Man-hee & Shincheonji: Articles, Links & Selected Videos (2011-2020)
Post by: Peter Daley on February 21, 2020, 09:16:55 AM
Well, between August 2018 and Feb. 19, 2020, I barely gave this cult a second thought. I bookmarked articles now and then with the intention of adding them here sooner or later ... and then this happened. I lived in Daegu (the center of the Shincheonji-sparked virus outbreak) for about 8 years, so this strikes close to home. This is a work-in-progress.

Before I get to the timeline of articles, for English source material from Shincheonji, here are thoughts regarding and quotes from Lee Man-hee's book The Creation and Heaven & Earth. (https://peterdaley.net/strangerthings/index.php?topic=42.0) Also of historical interest: History Before Shincheonji: Where was Manhee Lee? (http://shinchonjiandthebible.blogspot.com/2010/06/all-or-nothing.html)

Note: Some links from late February 2020 are missing due to a glitch. I'm gradually adding them back.

2020 Post-Corona Virus

March 1: Articles and videos from March 1, 2020 will be posted in this new thread. (https://peterdaley.net/strangerthings/index.php?topic=48.0) It's a little easier for me that way. I'll still continue to add older links, videos, and resources below as I find them.

QuoteAs the cat and mouse game between Shincheonji and the government continues, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin announced Friday he would press criminal charges against the operators of Shincheonji's Daegu church for "causing confusion" with the city's measures to contain the outbreak by refusing several times to submit the list of about 1,760 trainees living in Daegu. Kwon continued that the church also failed to submit the list of Shincheonji followers in Daegu who attend a different Shincheonji church outside the city, which amounts to about 222 people.

In an exclusive report Friday morning, the JoongAng Ilbo hinted at possible links between Shincheonji and a group of Catholics from North Gyeongsang who recently tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from a pilgrimage to Israel, saying that the son of a member of the Catholic group is a Shincheonji follower. The son and father both tested positive for the virus. The Euiseong County Office in North Gyeongsang told the paper Thursday that the son initially denied he was a Shincheonji adherent, but admitted it after county officials found him on the nationwide list of members.

QuoteOn Thursday, the government also requested the church to hand over a list of an additional 70,000 candidate members and their contact information. Shincheonji only "gives" membership to people who complete a seven-month-long training period. However, the church refused saying it was difficult to share the contact information of non-members....

Gyeonggi Governor Lee complained that the list obtained by the central government was incomplete, saying the number was far fewer than the one he obtained earlier, after officials entered a church facility without its consent to get a full list of members.

This raises the likelihood that more infections could occur at the prison that houses about 400 inmates. ...

"They might have been more afraid of disclosing their membership than of the virus spreading," Busan Presbyterian University Professor Tark Ji-il said.
