Photobucket in the News & Dead Links

July 7, 2017: Amazon, eBay Images Held to ‘Ransom’ by Photobucket

Well, Photobucket went just from free to $400 a year overnight with pretty much no notice, so if you see lots of dead photo links like the one below on this blog and my other sites, that’s why. I do hope to swap the dead links for live alternatives – and I just did that in a few posts – but it’s going to be a long, tedious, and arduous process, and I hate long, tedious, and arduous processes. Slow and steady wins the race, but it’s going to be a long, tedious, and arduous race. Thanks Photobucket.

The Half Marathon from Hell for a Good Cause

On Saturday April 25, I attended a screening of Ann Shin’s documentary “The Defector” which traces the harrowing journey of a group of North Korean defectors as they endeavour to escape China, where they face the risk of deportation back to North Korea, and make their way to South Korea via the Golden Triangle and Thailand. Here is the trailer. Below that, an interview with Ann Shin:

English Music Club Official Promotional Video!

A last-minute desperate attempt to entice students to join my music club worked last year for the spring 2015 semester:

One year later (March 2016) I hope it works again. Running this club has I think been the highlight of my time at SMU to date. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share my love of music with students. Last semester we performed “I’m Yours” by Jason Mranz. Great song, but our version was terrible. We had a lot of fun, but the result isn’t something I can share 😉

Pusan Aquarium Shark Dive!

On June 19, 2010, I celebrated the end of a very busy semester with a trip down to Pusan with two lucky coworkers, Jeff and Lee. The highlight for me was winning at the casino (that lucky number 16 again) with the shark dive a close second:

How to Make a Delicious Banana Pancake!

I bought some pancake mix recently and have been making tons of scrumptious banana pancakes. Here’s my secret recipe set to the groovy 1960s sounds of composer John Williams. Yum!

Watch out for that second egg. There was something very very wrong with it: it felt wrong, looked wrong, smelt wrong, and tasted wrong.

How To Make A Delicious Banana Smoothie!

I’ve been making myself banana smoothies for breakfast of late, and I believe my recipe is good enough to share with the world so that all may enjoy.

Ingredients: 1 egg, 1 banana, 1 kiwi (or strawberry) “slimmy” yogurt, 5 grams of creatine monohydrate (for big muscles), some low-fat milk, and a dash of cinnamon. Blend, consume, and enjoy! Yum!

JLPT Countdown!

The annual Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is just a month away, and it’s time to get serious about studying for it. I’ve been pretty busy of late, so I haven’t studied as much as I’d hoped to these past few weeks. Feelings of dread.

To be honest, I’m not feeling very confident, but one month is a nice big round number, and it should be enough time to learn all that I need. I’m reassured by the fact the pass mark is 60%, but pass or fail, it doesn’t concern me too much. The point is to study and improve my Japanese. A pass would be nice though:Japanese

Update: December 5. Well the test is less than 12 hours away and oops, I have been much busier with work and my MBA than I expected. As a result, I’m not as prepared for the test as I would have liked. I’m still looking forward to the test though as I’m looking at it as a chance to gain some JLPT test taking experience. Just registering for the test has resulted in me doing more study than I would otherwise have done, and that’s a positive. If I don’t pass this time, that’s OK. I’ll definitely pass it next time.  It’s now 10:39 p.m., time for some final Kanji and grammar review, and then it’s off to bed. Wish me luck!

Update 2: I failed.

Maria Interviews Peter…

On Thursday November 26, Maria Osipova and I gave a presentation entitled “Promoting Yourself on the Internet” for our Global M.B.A. Business Communication class. Personally, it was by far the most interesting subject I have explored in a presentation. In fact, the idea for this website came after Maria and I first started preparing our presentation. Thanks for agreeing to all my crazy ideas Maria! It was great working with you:
